Covid deaths in GMC unprecedented: Ex-MP

MAPUSA

Terming the deaths of Covid patients allegedly due to lack of oxygen as “unprecedented”, former MP Narendra Sawaikar said there was no point in digging up the past but admitted the government has learnt a lot from the incident.

“It was an unprecedented situation. We all have learnt a lesson from the incident. We all learn from experience. It’s now a past,” Sawaikar said, while responding to a query on the deaths of patients due to lack of oxygen in Goa Medical College and Hospital.

He said the government was much more prepared now to tackle the Covid menace and has taken several steps to augment the required infrastructure.

“We have set up a new super-speciality block next to the old GMC building. In vaccination too, we are almost close to China,” he said.

It may be recalled, the State government came under severe criticism after several patients died allegedly due to lack of oxygen supply in the Goa Medical College and Hospital in Bambolim in April-May.
