EWS yet to get Covid compensation: MLA

MARGAO

Congress MLA Reginaldo Lourenco has drawn attention of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant that the kith and kin of persons, who have succumbed to Covid, especially belonging to the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) category are yet to receive the Rs 2 lakh Covid-19 compensation announced by the government on Goa Statehood Day.

In his letter, the three-time Curtorim MLA said the aggrieved people are made to run from the pillar to the post but all their efforts are going to vain because they are being given to understand that the State government has not instructed the district Collectors and other officials on the reimbursement of the said compensation.

To mitigate the hardships faced by the people, Reginaldo requested the Chief Minister to instruct the district Collectors and other officials to disburse Covid-19 compensation amounting to Rs 2 lakh to the people who belong to EWS category ie, those who have lost their earning member to the  pandemic.

He also appealed to the Chief Minister to financially compensate all families who lost their near and dear ones due to the shortage of oxygen in GMC and in all other hospitals of Goa.

“Similarly, our State government must also have ready data on children/ students orphaned because either one or both of the parents died due to Covid-19. And all-out effort must be made by our State government to financially assist these children in their full growth and their complete education till they attain 25 years of age,” he said, adding that the government must be the caretaker for all who have lost their loved ones especially parents and earning member due to the onslaught of the said deadly pandemic in the State which till 27th June 2021 accounted for 3,040 deaths.
