Decorated fishing boats and a prayer service marked the celebration of the feast of Sao Pedro, patron saint of the fishing community, in Kharewaddo-Vasco on Tuesday.

Fishing community members from different parts of Vasco decorated their fishing boats with colourful balloons, coconut palms, flowers and other decorative items at the Kharewaddo jetty.

A priest offered prayers and sought the intercession of St Pedro to protect the fishermen and bless them with a good catch of fish.

The celebration culminated with the distribution of fruits, after which some boats left for a round in the Arabian Sea as part of an annual tradition.
