OLD GOA

Corlim ZP member Siddesh Naik met Deputy CM and Agriculture Minister Chandrakant (Babu) Kavlekar over the issue of breached bundhs in Malar-Divar, which has resulted in entry of saline water inland and roads getting submerged during high tide.

Naik was accompanied by Malar locals, including former sarpanchas Sadanand Phadte and Bhushan Bhomkar, local Chillaya Sawant, Divar school headmaster Anand Phadte and others.

It may be recalled that Naik had visited Malar-Divar on Sunday after the locals of Uski Vaddo and Muddi highlighted their plight to the media over saline water submerging roads due to breaches in the bundhs.

He had later assured to take up the issue with the ministers concerned for a temporary as well as permanent solution to the problem.

Naik informed The Goan that Kavlekar has assured to get the bundh repaired on an urgent basis.

“He has assured that he would speak with WRD minister Filipe Neri Rodrigues and get the work done. For the moment, the bundh breaches would be repaired as a temporary solution but as a permanent solution a concrete retaining wall would be built along the main bundh for which deputy CM has assured to speak with WRD minister,” Naik said.

“I will also meet the WRD minister and request him to take up the repair work on an urgent basis.”

Chillaya Sawant said they met Kavlekar and he assured to speak to the contractor who bagged the tender to repair the bundh and direct him to begin the work immediately.

“Kavlekar has said he will issue directions to undertake repair of the breaches in the bundh within two days,” Sawant added.
