The farmers affiliated to Neura Khazan Tenants Association forced the postponement of the sluice gates auction, which was held in Neura panchayat hall on Friday.
Even before the auction could be conducted, the farmers objected to the same stating that they the committee should first submit the accounts.
“We don’t have any problem with holding of the auction of the sluice gates but first the accounts need to be placed before the members,” one of the farmers informed while demanding that the auction be postponed.
However, talathi Satyawan Gaude informed that the farmers should place their grievances before the Mamlatdar and that he is duty bound to hold the auction as directed.
With the issue heading nowhere, it was then decided to allow the auction to go ahead with the bidders told not to participate in the same.
As a result, the auction of the five sluice gates was conducted but as no bidder participated in the same, the same stood postponed.
“First, we need to know the details of expenditure done by the committee. Only after that, the auction can be conducted,” a farmer Chandrakant Mangueshkar informed The Goan.
Another farmer Jeetu Sawant said that even the bidders supported the demand of the farmers by not participating in the auction.
“We have now demanded that the general body meeting of the Neura Khazan Tenants Association be held wherein the accounts be placed before the farmers,” Sawant added.
A large number of police from Agassaim police station were present to maintain law and order.
