A man from Housing Board in Sanquelim was arrested on January 12 after his minor child was involved in a hit-and-run accident at the Housing Board junction near Sanskruti Bhavan in Sanquelim.
According to Bicholim police, the incident took place on January 10 at about 9.10 am when a car was driven in a rash and negligent manner while moving from Housing Board towards the Sanquelim main road.
On reaching the Housing Board junction near Sanskruti Bhavan, the car hit a motorcycle and fled the spot. The motorcyclist was referred to the GMC Hospital in Bambolim for treatment.
Police registered an offence under sections 281, 125 and 125(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023 and sections 134(a) and 134(b) of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
During the investigation, a team led by PSI Jaiprakash Jankar visited the spot and carried out enquiries in the area. After speaking to locals and checking CCTV footage, police found that the vehicle involved was a Maharashtra-registered electric car that was being driven by a juvenile at the time of the accident.
On Monday, police arrested the juvenile’s father, a resident of Housing Board, Sanquelim. He was later released on bail.
