FDA officials on Thursday shut down 13 food stalls set up for the Novena and Feast at Old Goa, after the vendors were found engaged in cooking activities in open areas under unhygienic conditions.

During the drive, FDA officials observed that despite the FDA’s and panchayat’s directives, the vendors were also found disposing food waste and water behind the stall areas, thereby creating a noxious environment.

Besides reporting the matter to the Health Officer at Corlim, the FDA has also written to Old Goa police seeking assistance in maintaining a strict check on the stalls that were shut.

The 13 stalls were involved in making biryani, chaat items, golas and sherbet, kebabs, etc.

The FDA has deputed a team to carry out strict checks on December 2 and 3 to ensure all stalls are observing proper hygiene norms.

The FDA has also appealed to public not to patronise any stalls which do not observe proper hygiene.
