Speaking to The Goan, senior food safety inspector Rajiv Korde said they have confiscated 900 kgs of roasted vermicelli, worth Rs 90,000, wrapped in newspapers.
“The FSSAI authority has prohibited the use of newspapers for wrapping food items. After receiving information of this particular consignment which had come from Aurangabad, we intercepted the truck and found the roasted vermicelli wrapped in newspapers. It’s very harmful,” he said.
According to Korde, the consignment was ordered by a food packaging unit from Panaji.
When asked whether they have booked anyone in this connection, Korde said presently, they have taken samples and will take action on the basis of report.
Sources informed that the roasted vermicelli are ordered from Aurangabad and are packed in Goa.
“It is wrapped in newspapers and the food items were also misbranded regarding origin of manufacture,” Korde informed.
