The Transport Department received over 1,600 objection letters to the draft taxi aggregator policy, a figure it stated represents less than 10 per cent of the total number of taxis operating across Goa.
Transport Director Pravimal Abhishek described the feedback as largely constructive stating many submissions support the government’s move to regulate app-based taxi services.
“The department received only 1,607 objections, which is less than 10 per cent of the total registered taxis in the State. Interestingly, most of the responses were positive in tone. Several drivers welcomed the policy and offered practical suggestions to enhance its implementation,” Abhishek told The Goan.
One of the main concerns raised was the need to limit aggregator services strictly to point-to-point pick-up and drop operations.
Drivers urged the government not to allow app-based platforms to encroach into areas such as local sightseeing, event logistics, cruise transfers, and other niche services traditionally managed by local operators.
Other submissions highlighted operational challenges, including unreliable mobile network coverage in rural areas, limited smartphone access, and low levels of digital literacy among segments of the workforce.
Some also suggested that the fare structure be reviewed periodically to reflect fluctuations in fuel prices.
The Director stated that the government will duly consider all feedback before finalising the regulations.
