MARGAO

Amid the beating of 'Dhol' and Tashe' and the sprinkling of colours, Holi - the festival of colours - was celebrated in Margao on Thursday.

Almost every nook and corner of the commercial capital witnessed Holi revelry, as Madgavkars and migrants alike participated in the festival, taking the revelry to a crescendo.

Into its 27th year at Pimpalkatta, the Madgaon Hindu Yuvak Sanghtana kickstarted the revelry with a procession to the beats of the traditional instruments as it wound its way through the main area of the city. Revellers sprinkled 'Gulal' on each other, sprayed each other with coloured water from the 'Pichkari'.

The Holi revelry also spread to Fatorda, where the centres of celebrations were reported at various places.

The main venue was Shree Damodar Devasthan (Ling) near Fatorda stadium where the revellers were ready for playing Holi. The revellers paid their obeisance to the Lord before commencing the celebrations. Next to the temple, obeisance was also paid at the lake.

Both - Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai and former Fatorda MLA Damu Naik - made their presence felt at the celebrations, applied 'Gulal' to each other at Shree Damodar Devasthan (Ling) Fatorda before embarking on the celebrations thereafter.

While Sardesai participated in the Holi celebrations at his residence where he organised a Rain Dance and also paid his obeisance at Shree Nagdev temple, Murida.

Damu participated in the Holi celebrations titled 'Rang Barse' near the parking lot of the SAG swimming pool complex after paying his obeisance to the reigning deities. The celebrations commenced at around 9 am which included adult pool, rain dance, foam dance, waterfall, kids pool, water balloons, pichkaris, etc. The main attraction at the event was live performance of Bollywood singer Purva Mantri.

Elsewhere in Margao, most people celebrated Holi in their own way, sprinkling colours on their friends and relatives.

Fatorda's arch rivals display myriad hues of friendship

Fatorda’s warring politicians “ Independent MLA Vijai Sardesai and former BJP MLA Damu Naik “ left politics behind for some time on the occasion of Holi as they celebrated the festival together at Linga Temple at Fatorda on Thursday morning. The duo, who do not see eye to eye and hardly misses an opportunity to attack each other politically, were seen extending Holi greetings at Linga Temple in the presence of their supporters and devotees. Both the MLA and two-time former…
