Anti-Terrorism Squad of the Goa Police has finally been equipped with 50 Bullet Proof Jackets and 50 Bullet Proof Helmets for its Quick Reaction Teams.
With this, the long-pending requirement of bullet proof gear by Goa police has finally been met.
Goa being a hub of national and international tourist activities there were demands for a full-fledged security force of high standards in order to combat terror-like activities.
“Equipping the police force with these state of the art gear was need of the hour. Further processes are underway to procure 10 bullet proof sentry posts, 30 bulletproof shields and two bulletproof armoured vehicles for ATS personnel,” the authorities informed.
The procured bullet proof jackets are of NIJ III+ protection Level and bullet proof helmets are of NIJ IIIA protection level. Both types of gear are tested at Institute of Forensic Science Ballistic Research Centre and Testing Range of Gujarat Forensic Sciences University, Gandhinagar, Gujarat for its effectiveness.
The bullet proof jackets were supplied by SMPP Pvt Ltd a Delhi-based company and the bullet proof helmets were supplied by Calcutta Fabricators a Kolkata based company.
