The Cuncolim Municipal Council has finally issued an order of demolition to an industrial unit operating at the Cuncolim Industrial Estate for allegedly erecting an illegal wall and fencing outside the estate.
After issuing a show cause notice on the illegal construction to an “unknown” person, the Cuncolim Municipal Chief Officer Joao Fernandes has finally issued a demolition order on Quality Export to raze down the wall and fencing around a well within 15 days.
The Chief Officer has warned that the civic body would carry out the demolition and recover the cost from the industrial unit if the same is not demolished within the time frame.
When The Goan drew his attention that his office had earlier issued a show cause to an “unknown person” for carrying out the illegal wall and fencing outside the industrial estate, Joao said the show cause notice was issued to an unknown person after the industrial unit had initially avoided taking the responsibility for the construction.
The lawyer representing the industrial unit told the media after the hearing that his client reserves the right to file an appeal before the appellate court.
Adv Patrick Monteiro and Aviraj Desai, who had demanded demolition of the illegal structures in the Sociedade plot outside the industrial estate, have welcomed the Chief Officer’s order. “We are happy that the people of Cuncolim have been given justice by the Cuncolim Municipal Council. We had taken up the issue with the Municipality by filing a complaint against the illegal construction,” the duo said.
Both Patrick and Aviraj have demanded that since the land in question belongs to the Sociedade, the body should take back the properties encroached upon by the industrial units.
