CURCHOREM
Property worth about Rs 1.5 lakh was destroyed when a restaurant caught fire at Curchorem on Tuesday at about 12.30 pm.
According to Curchorem fire station officer Shailesh Gawade, a fire broke out due to a short circuit in an air-conditioner in the restaurant.
“Some material from the restaurant viz false ceiling and roof was burnt. The exact loss incurred has not been received by us, but it could be about Rs 1.5 lakh,” Gawade told The Goan.
Upon inquiry, Gawade said the restaurant staff noticed smoke from the air conditioner and immediately informed the owner. The fire personnel rushed to the spot to extinguish the fire. “Customers were present in the restaurant, but no casualty was reported,” he added.
