CANACONA
A blast and a huge fire at an electricity pole in the heart of Palolem left many parts of the famed beach in darkness for about 3 hours on Thursday night.
“We heard a blast on the electricity pole and it immediately caught fire in the heart of Palolem beach, which has several businesses and residential houses barely metres away. We have never witnessed a fire with such intensity,” remarked a resident.
The Canacona fire services rushed to the site on receiving information and along with locals, brought the fire under control.
The electricity department Assistant Engineer Govind Bhat also immediately deputed a team of linesmen who swung to action to restore the disrupted power supply.
Businesses and residents heaved a sigh of relief as power supply was restored later in the night.
