A major fire broke out on Fulasario hill at Advoi village in Bhironda Panchayat of Sattari taluka on Thursday afternoon, causing heavy damage to cashew plantations and nearby forest areas.

According to initial reports, cashew orchards belonging to around 10 farmers were destroyed, leading to major financial losses. The incident caused panic in the area. The hill has several cashew plantations, both newly planted and older orchards. The region is known for good cashew production every year, and many families depend on it for their livelihood.

As soon as the fire was spotted, local farmers and villagers rushed to the site and tried to put out the flames. However, strong winds helped the fire spread quickly, making it hard to control.

The Valpoi Fire and Emergency Services were informed and reached the spot promptly. After nearly three hours of continuous efforts and using large amounts of water, firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control.

Locals said that orchards of more than ten farmers were gutted, putting their income at serious risk. A big drop in this year’s cashew yield is expected. The exact cause of the fire is still not known.

Villagers estimated that nearly three acres of plantation and forest land were affected. Fire department officials said a detailed survey will be carried out to assess the exact loss. Affected farmers have been asked to submit the required documents, after which a full report will be sent to senior authorities.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Collector and Mamlatdar of Sattari have taken note of the incident and will soon conduct an official inspection. Bhironda Sarpanch Udaysingh Rane said many families have suffered financial losses. As cashew farming is their main source of income, he demanded immediate government support for the affected farmers.
