Fish and other vendors cleared from wholesale fish market road

Illegal vendors have disappeared from the wholesale fish market road ahead of the foreign ministers conference. Trash collected awaiting disposal.

MARGAO

When Chief Minister Pramod Sawnat descended at Goa’s lone fish market during his previous stint as the state CM, one of the instructions he issued to the authorities was to ensure the wholesale fish market road is kept free of fish and other vendors.

Reason; The Chief Minister personally saw for himself how the vendors literally invaded the entire wholesale fish stretch, right from La Grace Hotel to the  market right under the very nose of the authorities.

In fact, post-CM’s instructions, the Margao Municipal Council and the Fatorda police literally struggled to comply with the CM’s diktat, so much so the situation returned back to square one just days after the vendors made a disappearing act.

The ground reality has changed on Tuesday, months and years after the Chief Minister’s directions. For, ahead of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization meeting of Foreign Ministers meeting at Benaulim, the authorities have finally got the fish and other vendors cleared from the wholesale fish market road.

A  couple of vendors did make their presence felt on the road later in the morning, but sources said they were issued a stern warning that their goods will be confiscated and will not be returned back.
