A Sattari court has on Tuesday acquitted five persons due to lack of evidence for the killing of a tiger at Keri, Sattari.
In 2009, a case had been registered due to the killing of a tiger at Keri. Ganesh Majik, Nagesh Majik, Suryakant Majik, Ankush Majik, Bhiva Gavas were named as the accused. The chargesheet was filed in the court in 2010.
The case has been pending for the last 13 years .
It is learned that the killing of Patteri tiger was uncovered at Keri Sattari in Sattari taluka. This caused a great deal of controversy. The killing of Patteri tigers was widely reported at the time.
Meanwhile, according to further information obtained in this regard, a trap was set for hunting wild boar in the hilly areas, not far from the residential area of Keri Sattari. A deer was trapped in the trap. While hunting this deer, a tiger was caught in it. A few days later, while some residents of the area were visiting the area, they came across a trapped tiger, it was learnt.
Meanwhile, after the killing of Patteri tiger was discovered there was tension in the area. Due to this, some people tried to destroy the evidence by burning the tiger with the intention of suppressing the case. However, the case escalated after some people viralized the video.
After the news of this was published in a newspaper, there was an uproar everywhere. The forest department took this seriously. Evidence of this was collected and sent to Dehradun for testing. Upon investigation, Ganesh Majik, Nagesh Majik, Suryakant Majik, Ankush Majik, Bhiva Gavas were arrested for this incident and later released on bail.
Environmentalist Rajendra Kerkar, who lives in the area, highlighted the seriousness of the case and the suspects were arrested.
