Five hotel staffers booked for misappropriating Rs 22 lakh

MAPUSA:

In a major case of financial misconduct, five staff members of two hotels in Calangute have been booked on charges of misappropriating guest payments amounting to approximately Rs 22 lakh over a span of nearly five years.

According to a complaint filed by the hotel management, the fraudulent activities occurred between April 2019 and January 23, 2024.

The accused employees, identified as Minoshka Mario Mendes from Siolim, Dharmesh Bhandari from Honnavar, Justin Raj from Tamil Nadu, Alamgir Anwar Mandal and Shashibhushan Chouhan were entrusted with collecting payments at the reception counters of the hotels.

The management alleged that the employees dishonestly pocketed both cash and digital payments made by guests during this period.

The misappropriation reportedly went undetected for years until an internal audit raised red flags, prompting a detailed investigation.

Police have registered a case against the five individuals and further inquiries are underway to determine the full extent of the financial irregularities.
