PONDA
PWD Minister on Monday advocated the need to focus on agriculture, so that the State can be in a position to export rather than importing agricultural produce.
Dhavalikar was speaking at a formal function to mark Revolution Day at the Kranti Maidan in Ponda. Others present at the function included freedom fighter and former MLA Rohidas Naik, Ponda MLA Ravi Naik, South Goa MP Adv. Narendra Sawaikar, PMC Chairperson Pradip Naik, additional collector Damodar Morajkar, Deputy Collector Vishal Kundaikar and DySP Mahesh Gaonkar.
“While resolving the issue of mining, we should also concentrate in the agriculture sector. A few decades ago, Goa was a major exporter of coconuts and we even got a good yield of rice. But now, the situation is such that we have to import these goods. We need to change this situation,” Dhavalikar said.
According to Dhavalikar, there should be a focus on agriculture activities, which can make Goa self-sufficient.
While paying rich tributes to freedom fighters, PWD Minister, Sudin Dhavalikar said their sacrifice will always be remembered. “We are trying to display names of freedom fighters, who contributed to the Goa liberation movement, here at Kranti Maidan. This will be done in the coming days,” the minister said.
