In a significant raid conducted in the Panaji Municipal Market foreign cigarettes worth Rs 2,000 along with a large consignment of scented tobacco were seized by the Tiswadi Enforcement Squad for violations under COTPA 2003 as well as the Goa Public Health Act Amendment 2005.

It may be noted that in lieu of the ban on the sale of gutka, a combination of sachets of pan masala and scented tobacco have flooded the market and are being sold as gutka in Goa. The enforcement squad led by Sandeep Gawde, Joint Mamlatdar IV along with staff, police personnel of Panaji Town Police Station and GOACAN volunteers undertook the seizure from three outlets in the market.

Fines of Rs 1,200 were also imposed on these outlets for violation of Section 4 and Section 6a of COTPA 2003 for not displaying the mandatory signages.
