Narvekar’s statement has been recorded by EOC and he is likely to be called for questioning again.
EOC will also issue fresh summons to 11 other former office bearers of GCA.
Narvekar presided over the cricketing body from 2006 till 2012 and was heading GCA when the offence allegedly occurred. He was issued two summons in the past and finally deposed before the EOC on Wednesday after fresh summons were issued to him on Tuesday. Police were informed that he has taken ill and that he was undergoing medical treatment in Mumbai.
It was, however, learnt that Narvekar has denied being in the know of the whereabouts of the minutes books as well as the cheque of Rs 2.87 crore received on October 23, 2006 from Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) as TV subsidies during his tenure as the president.
It was this amount which was misappropriated by the accused and the then secretary Chetan Desai, the then treasurer Vinod Phadke and Akbar Mulla between 2007 and 2008, during Narvekar’s tenure as GCA president.
Desai has alleged that the trio forged some documents and later on April 13, 2007 opened a new account in the name of GCA while depositing this particular cheque as opening account balance.
The entire amount was then allegedly siphoned off through 50 separate withdrawals.
Dr Shekhar Salkar, who took over as the president of GCA on November 22, 2014 and remained in office till June 30, 2015, has already been questioned by the EOC.
Meanwhile, the investigating team of EOC is likely to challenge the conditional bail granted to the accused.
On June 24, following a week-long police custody, the three accused were granted conditional bail in the alleged multi-crore scam by Judicial Magistrate First Class, Panaji.
EOC had arrested the trio on June 15 after registering the FIR on June 2 based on a complaint filed by Vilas Desai alleging misappropriation of GCA funds worth Rs 3.13 crore. They were booked under Section 408, 409, 419, 463, 464, 468, 471, 420 and 120 (B) of the IPC.
