Four arrested in
Corlim dacoity case
OLD GOA: Four persons were arrested by the Old Goa police in connection with the broad daylight dacoity at Corlim on March 7.
The Old Goa police gave the names of the four accused as Vijaya Popat Patoli (40) of Girui-Satara, Siddarth Ramesh Barse (27) of Ashok Nager-Ahamadnagar, Dattatray Kashinath Gawde (40) of PDA Colony, Corlim and Pushpa Balgo Gadeker (67) of Canca-Parra.
While the first two accused, Patoli and Barse, were arrested at Bijapur on Friday, the other two accused, Gawde and Gadeker, were arrested from Cancabandh and Karaswada-Mapusa respectively, on Saturday.
The first two accused were remanded for three days on Friday itself while the other two accused were given remand of two days by a local court on Saturday. All the four have been arrested under Sections 342, 395, 427 and 120B of IPC, informed the police.
“The four accused will now be produced in the Children’s Court on Monday to get their further remand,” a police official said, while stating that names of more people could come out in the course of the investigation.
The police also informed that cash and jewellery stolen in the dacoity has not been recovered thus far.
“Dattatray Gawde was working for Keshavnath Naik of Ravalnath Nagar, Corlim and he provided information to the others that Keshavanath had kept a lot of cash in his house, after which a plan was hatched to rob his house,” the police official said.
The official added that the accused had also surveyed other houses as well, but finally chose this one as it was easily accessible.
Further investigations are carried out by PSI Sagun Sawant under the supervision of PI Krishna Sinari.
It may be recalled that seven masked robbers had looted a house at Corlim and robbed cash and gold ornaments worth about Rs 10 lakh and decamped in a stolen car, after confining the inmates of the house at knife point.
Keshavnath Naik of Ravalnath Nagar, Corlim, had complained to the police that seven masked persons, armed with knife and wooden stick, had entered his house by break opening the rear door between 2.30 pm and 3.30 pm on March 7.
The complainant further stated that the accused confined his family members at knife point and wooden stick, and tied their hands, legs and mouth with a cloth available in the bedroom.
The police said the robbers stole cash of Rs 2 lakh and gold ornaments worth about Rs 7.98 lakh.
The robbers also damaged the CCTV cameras and thereafter decamped with the complainant's car (GA-07-E-9197), which was parked outside his house.
