“The time has come now when probably the entire higher education needs to be made free. I am confident that when the financial condition of improves in another two years higher education would be made free and Goa would be the first state in the Country to have free education upto post graduate level”, he said.
He was speaking after distributing laptops to standard XII students of higher secondary schools based in Tiswadi taluka.
Speaking on the occasion, Parsekar said, “We have distributed laptops to a few students today. Within the coming fortnight all the students across the State will be given laptops.”
Under the ‘Cyberage Scheme’, one of the flagship schemes of the State Government, laptops would be given to 15,153 students of standard XII studying at various higher secondary schools across the State for the academic year 2015-16.
Speaking on the occasion, Education Director Gajanan Bhat appealed to the students to make the best use of laptops provided to them.
These ‘Lenovo’ laptops have been procured at Rs 18,888 each by the State Government through Info-Tech Corporation of Goa, the total expenditure incurred is Rs 29.60 crore.
While the laptops have one year return-to-bench warranty, the softwares supplied are Windows 8 operating system preloaded under ‘Shape the Future’ and Microsoft Office standard academic edition.
