The government on Wednesday informed the High Court of Bombay at Goa that it has rejected a second proposal to extend the service of Goa Dental College Dean, Dr Ida de Noronha de Ataide, bringing her post-retirement tenure to an end.
The State told the court that Dr Ataide’s extended service ended on March 31, 2026. Anita Spadigam, Professor and Head of Oral Pathology at Goa Dental College and Hospital, has been given charge of the Dean’s post in addition to her current duties. The submission was made during the hearing of a petition filed earlier, which sought directions to the State to remove Dr Ataide after she was granted a post-retirement extension.
At a previous hearing on March 24, the government had told the court that a fresh proposal submitted by the Dean for a further extension was under consideration. It had also said that her ongoing extension would end on March 31, with no final decision taken at that time. The State counsel had requested that the matter be listed on April 1, stating that if the extension was rejected, the petition would no longer be valid. The High Court accepted the request and adjourned the matter.
