The founders of one of India's biggest security conferences have predicted that future wars will not be fought with arms and ammunitions, but through cyber crimes by hacking core systems of health, automobiles, telecoms and other related sectors.
Briefing reporters at a starred resort at Bogmalo on Thursday, the eve of a two-day meet in the State, Nullcon co-founder Antriksh Shah emphasised the need to build capabilities in cyberage to tackle any hacking of core systems of industries and destroying important information.
“Unknown threats are looming large in the IT sector and the government and other industries should keep themselves abreast of the latest devices to tackle any untoward situation,” said Shah.
Founder of Nullcon Aseem Jakhar said the core system in one of the health sectors in US and Germany had been hacked and important data relating to patient’s health had been either destroyed or distorted.
“At Nullcon, we bridge the knowledge gap through research and discussions. Security heads of Google, Microsoft, Facebook attend our conferences and exchange valuable information for the safety of the IT world,” said Jakhar.
“Lot of research is being done by Nullcon and we request the government and other industries to take part in our conferences that are being conducted every year to cope up with terror and enhance our devices,” added Jakhar.
Another co-founder of Nullcon, Murtuja Bharmal, said security threats are no longer science fiction, as smart medical devices and cars can be hacked remotely.
“This can pose a serious risk not only to business, but also to lives,” he said.
“This is our seventh edition and researchers from around the world not only showcase such attacks, but also advise how the manufacturers can improve security of these devices,” said Bharmal.
“Nullcon has become the venue for highly technical talks and path-breaking research and apart from being a preferred venue to discuss technical details, Nullcon also fosters discussions with relevant authorities on framing policies that impact existing standards,” added Bharmal.
