G-20 event may take place in Goa, says CM

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday indicated that one event of a G-20 Summit next year is likely to be held in Goa which will boost tourism.

“At least one event of the G-20 Summit is likely to be held in Goa. This will help us boost the tourism industry,” Sawant said, while speaking at the launch of online tourism registration services.

He added that he had spoken to Prime Minister Narendra Modi that one of the events of next year’s G-20 Summit which India will host be held in Goa. Sawant said Goa is the top destination for tourists from India and also internationally, adding that illegal tourism businesses will not be tolerated. He underscored the need to bring tourism-related services in the online mode to ensure ease of doing business.

He also said, paid transport facilities will be launched on weekends for the benefit of tourists and to encourage hinterland tourism.

Tourism minister Rohan Khaunte hoped that the launch of the online registration of tourism services will boost the industry. “All activities related to tourism will go online,” Khaunte said, adding that the deeming clause will be invoked to get rid of delays in getting permissions.
