A day after The Goan highlighted how the gaddas outside the Aquem side of the Margao railway station has violated the Municipal norms, Margao Municipal Council chairperson Babita Angle Prabhudesai said she has personally seen herself how the gaddas have been converted into fast food joints and encroached on the public space.
The MMC chairperson pointed out that she has already directed the MMC sanitary section to prepare a factual report on the food cooked at the gaddas and aspects relating to hygiene. “It’s true that the gaddas are not only involved in cooking food items, but they have encroached on the open space. My instructions have already gone to the sanitary section to prepare a report and initiate action," the chairperson added.
Incidentally, while the chairperson has claimed to have issued instructions to the sanitary section, the job of clearing the encroachments from the open road space meant for vehicular parking rests with the market inspectors, sources said.
Civic officials pointed out that unless the MMC market inspectors and the workers descend at the area and crack a whip, the encroachments on the open space will continue unabated.
