Gambling den raided at Pali

PANAJI : Crime branch of Goa Police on Friday evening raided a closed premises at Ambegal Bazar, Pali and apprehended five persons involved in gambling activity of 'patt.' Cash amount of Rs 31,260 was seized.

Accused Ratnakar Gawas was arrested for allegedly running the gambling den. The said gambling den has been closed down. It was allegedly running in a public place and attracted local youth, it was informed.

Four other persons including Vasudev Gawde, Swapnil Gawas, Dattaram Gawas and Sanjay Gawde have also been arrested.

Crime branch has registered a case under Goa Prohibition of Gambling Act.

Police Inspector (crime) Dattaguru Sawant and police sub inspector (crime) Laxi Amonkar conducted the raid along with other staff members.

According to Margao town police, the complainant claimed that his daughter was kidnapped from Aquem on July 7, in the afternoon. Margao town police have registered an offence under Section 363 of IPC and Section 8 of GCA.

Pedestrian dies in Borim accident

According to Maina­-Curtorim police, the accident occurred on July 7, when the driver of an unidentified vehicle which was proceeding from Ponda towards Margao knocked down the pedestrian, one Manuel (45), a resident of Loutolim and fled from the site. The pedestrian succumbed to the injuries sustained.

Maina­-Curtorim police have registered an offence under Sections 279, 304 - A of IPC and Section 134 (a) (b) of Motor Vehicles Act.

Further investigations are in progress.
