Goa Mining People’s Front (GMPF) Convenor Puti Gaonkar on Thursday announced the "Goa State Navnirman Aghadi Forum", with an aim to defeat the ruling BJP in the upcoming assembly elections.
While announcing the political forum, Gaonkar said his forum would field candidates in 18-20 constituencies, especially in mining areas.
"The present government and MLAs have done nothing to restart mining in the state. We have now decided to oppose them. Our only objective is to defeat the BJP,” said Gaonkar.
“If leaders from non-BJP parties are prepared to support me, I am even willing to contest against Chief Minister Pramod Sawant in Sankhali constituency.”
Besides fielding candidates in 18-20 constituencies, Gaonkar said his forum will support candidates of other parties like AAP, MGP and Revolutionary Goans in the other constituencies.
“We will not align with the Goa Forward Party due to lack of trust with its party leaders,” Gaonkar added.
