A delegation of the Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) met North Goa Collector and District Magistrate Ankit Yadav to raise concerns over restrictions on heavy commercial vehicles on NH-66, saying they are affecting air cargo operations to Goa International Airport at Dabolim.
The delegation included Chandrakant Gawas, chairman of GCCI’s logistics committee, Sanjay Amonkar, director general, Sanket Kaskar, foreign trade officer, and representatives of GMR. GCCI said trucks carrying time-bound cargo from industrial estates are struggling because of traffic curbs and ongoing works. Pharmaceuticals, perishables and e-commerce shipments are among the worst hit as they must meet flight deadlines.
The Chamber requested an alternative route on NH-66 to allow daytime movement of heavy vehicles. It also sought better access to Manohar International Airport, Mopa, removal of abandoned vehicles, and strict action against garbage dumping.
The delegation flagged rising accidents on the Porvorim stretch and asked for traffic police deployment, speed monitoring and better signage. The Collector assured that the issues would be reviewed with the concerned departments to find practical solutions.
