MARGAO
Goa Forward Party's President, Vijai Sardesai, has expressed his strong opposition to the proposed regulations to prevent the demolition of illegal houses on comunidade land announced by the Chief Minister of Goa.
This proposed measure, perceived as a covert attempt to revive the controversial Bhumiputra Bill, has raised major concerns among the law-abiding Goan populace, especially among the citizens who have worked diligently to acquire their homes legally, he said.
Saying this move undermines the integrity of Goan communities, and disregards the rights of Goemkars, Sardesai said, “This move to legalize houses built on encroached land predominantly by migrants is not only an assault on Goan ethos but also an insult to those who respects, and abides by the laws of the land. The Goa Forward Party views this as a blatant attempt to appease a migrant vote bank at the expense of local Goemkars”.
Sardesai also questioned the motives behind the government's repeated efforts to bypass High Court decisions through ordinances that favour outsiders over the indigenous population. He asserted that the Goan land should remain with Goemkars, protected from external interferences that threaten the state's cultural and social fabric. He added: “The Goa Forward Party calls upon all Goans to unite in their efforts to protect their land and heritage against policies that prioritize outsider interests over those of local citizens”.
Sardesai emphasized that the fight for Goan land is a fight for the state's identity, and its future, urging the community to stand firm in opposing measures that compromise their rights, and the integrity of their native lands.
