MARGAO
Goa Forward Party chief Vijai Sardesai on Friday said his party has nothing to say about the formation of the proposed Goa Congress party, but expressed hope that the Congress would put its house in order ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.
He said the Congress had shown interest in holding talks with the regional party on the strategy for the 2027 polls. “The Congress is talking to us and is also working on the ground. We are doing our work. I hope the two parties will engage in serious talks. We are running out of time as the elections are fast approaching,” Sardesai said.
He said the Goa Forward Party would contest the elections with a people’s manifesto, as the party considers the people to be its “High Command”. “Congress is our ally. I hope the Congress puts its house in order,” he said.
Asked whether the proposed Goa Congress party would have any impact in the State, Sardesai said the new outfit, which is in the process of being registered, is not a breakaway from the Goa Forward Party. “Right now, we are the most stable political party in the State of Goa,” he said.
Sardesai also said he has no personal enmity with Goa Pradesh Congress Committee president Girish Chodankar. He revealed that Chodankar had recently sent him a message proposing alliance talks after July 5. “This is not news. It will become news only when the two parties sit across the table and discuss the seats they intend to contest in 2027. I am going out of station for 15 days. I hope the Congress will put its house in order. Let us see after my return,” he added.
