A 25-year-old student of the Goa Institute of Management (GIM) was allegedly attacked with a knife by her 26-year-old hostel mate while she was sleeping in her room at the girls’ hostel on the institute’s campus at Poriem in Sattari. Valpoi Police have arrested the accused, Sukanya Sabbhani (26), in connection with the incident.
The incident reportedly took place at around 2.45 pm on September 5. The complainant suffered a serious injury to her neck and cuts on her hands in the alleged attack, resulting in heavy bleeding.
According to the complaint, the student, who is from Lucknow and is pursuing her studies at GIM, was sleeping in her hostel room when Sabbhani allegedly attacked her with a knife. Sabbhani is reportedly from Hyderabad.
The complainant also alleged that the accused threatened to kill her after the attack. She sustained injuries to her hands while reportedly trying to protect herself.
Following the incident, Valpoi Police initiated an investigation and arrested the accused. Police are probing the motive behind the alleged attack and whether there was any previous dispute or disagreement between the two students. They are also investigating the circumstances surrounding the use of the knife.
Police are recording statements of students and others who may have information about the incident. The alleged attack has raised concerns about the safety and security of students on the GIM campus.
Further investigation is under way.
