Speaking to reporters, PTMCA president Sakharam Parsekar said the Pernem taluka has welcomed the announcement made by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar that the locals would be given first job preference at Mopa airport project. "Instead of getting manpower from outside the State, local masons, carpenters and other workers should be given priority," said Parsekar.
Stating that traditional masons and carpenters are deprived of job opportunities, Parsekar said: "Many contractors prefer labour force from outside the State for their projects, due to which the local masons and carpenters are ignored and the government does not take cognizance of this issue," he said.
"If masons, carpenters and others workers from Pernem taluka are registered and given work at the Mopa airport project, these persons will regular employment for 2-3 years," he added. "The GMR Company should start registering the local workers as per their needs and should train them before actually starting the work," stated Parsekar.
PTMCA has also decided to submit a memorandum highlighting their demands to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, Sports Minister Manohar (Babu) Azgaonkar, Mandrem MLA Dayanand Sopte and Mopa airport director.
