The impact Arvind Kejriwal and his Aam Aadmi Party can have in Goa top on the mind of the Prime Minister, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said while speaking to the media after his return from the party's national executive in Allahabad where he met the Prime Minister.
Speaking at a press conference, Parsekar said that he met the Prime Minister for around 20 minutes and he was surprised by the PM’s knowledge of intricate issues of Goa.
“When I met the Prime Minister I was surprised to know that he is fully apprised of the situation in Goa. When I met him he asked me three pointed questions,” Parsekar said without revealing what the questions was.
When asked whether one of the questions was the impact of Kejriwal in Goa, Parsekar replied in the affirmative.
“Yes he had asked about Kejriwal and briefed him and told him that there was nothing to worry about,” Parsekar said only adding that “the strategy is not to be disclosed.”
He however said that the issue of Medium of Instruction was not something the Prime Minister asked him about nor something that cropped up during the meeting with him.
“There may be a letter he has sent to us seeking a report in three weeks, but that is part of the regular procedure where the letter is forwarded and comments are sought. The comments will have been sent. It is not something that we spoke about,” Parsekar said.
Parsekar also said that the party president Vinay Tendulkar spoke at the national executive in brief about the situation in Goa given that the State is going to polls within one year.
“He spoke about the situation and there were a few questions asked and that’s about it,” Parsekar said.
Also discussed with the prime minister is the upcoming Brazil Russia India China and South Africa (BRICS) summit to be held in Goa later this year.
“There was discussion on the BRICS issue and the Prime Minister asked us to place demands if we need anything. I will place this before the respective departments and let them make it known what kind of investments they need,” Parsekar said adding that the police might seek central reinforcements given the security threats the summit could face.
The summit will be held across four starred hotels in the State in October this year and will witness around 800 official delegates in the State as well as others.
“It is a chance for us to showcase Goa,” Parsekar said.
