PONDA: Heavy drama kept Goa Dairy on the boil on Wednesday, after “suspended” Goa Dairy Managing Director Dr Navasu Sawant refused to vacate his office and his “replacement” forced to sit outside of the cabin.
Goa Dairy Chairman Madhav Sahakari on Tuesday had suspended Managing Director Dr Navasu Sawant pending enquiry into irregularities alleged against him. Senior Officer Dr Ajit Kosambe had been given charge of the MD's post.
Sahakari had demanded an enquiry into affairs of Dr Sawant, after alleging a scam of around Rs 8 crore in the last six years. Sahakari claimed to have documentary evidence to prove the allegations. Dr Sawant has, however, denied the allegations and has welcomed any enquiry in the matter.
On Wednesday, Dr Sawant entered the Goa Dairy campus in a private car at around 10 am, but did not step out. Sometime later, directors of Goa Dairy supporting him reached the premises and he stepped out of the car, proceeding along with them to his cabin.
Dr Kosambe was present outside the cabin, while Dr Sawant and the Goa Dairy directors held a meeting.
Dr Sawant maintained he had not received any suspension order. "Only majority of BoD has the power to suspend and not the chairman,” Sr Sawant said.
The directors were then seen scolding an officer and heated arguments were heard while the officer was inside and he was then asked to leave the cabin.

Now, Sahakari served
no-confidence motion
PONDA: Reacting swiftly to Goa Dairy Chairman Madhav Sahakari's swift decision to suspend Managing Director Dr Navasu Sawant, eight directors jumped to Dr Sawant's defence and moved a no-confidence motion against chairman Madhav Sahakari. According to Dr Sawant, eight directors had given him a letter saying that Sahakari has lost the confidence of the BoD.
"We eight of the eleven directors of the union have lost confidence and faith in the chairman. In this regard, we have to inform you that don't allow him to perform any function or any action orders regarding working of the union by the Chairman shall not withstand without resolution of the board of directors. Obeying any such order of chairman, you shall be fully held responsible," Dr Sawant read out the letter submitted by a majority of BoD.
Asked whether the letter was inwarded, Sawant replied: “It was given personally to me. Today, they have sent the requisition (of no-confidence motion) to the registrar,” Dr Sawant added.
The 'Requisation' letter states that "on account of his (Madhav Sahakari) illegal act and mismanagement in the functioning of Goa Milk Union, we bring No Confidence Motion against him."
The directors, Vithoba Desai, Aselmo Furtado, Rajesh Fal Desai, Baburao Desai, Rajendra Sawal, Dhananjay Desai, Gurudas Parab and Naresh Malik have signed the no-confidence motion.

All directors with
me: Sahakari
PONDA: Claiming that he had not received any letter of no-confidence motion, Goa Dairy Chairman Madhav Sahakari insisted that all directors are with him. "If Goa Dairy Managing Director Dr Navasu Sawant has done nothing wrong, he should have respected my order and vacated the post till an enquiry reaches its conclusion. By refusing to vacate his post, it is evident he has done something wrong and he wants to tamper with the evidence,” Sahakari told media persons.
"He should have challenged my order in court or should have brought a no- confidence motion against me. They have not done anything of such,” Sakahari said.
When brought to his notice that eight directors have moved a no-confidence motion against him, Sahakari replied: “I have not received anything in that regards. All directors are with me. Nobody has phoned me to ask about recent developments.”
"The government should suspend the board for a particular time and should conduct an enquiry,” Sahakari said.
Sahakari added that the letter by directors to the MD on Monday has to be probed to ascertain if was inwarded through the proper channel.
