Goa fire services gets CBRN ready

The Goa Fire and Emergency Services has become the first Emergency Response Department in the country to get its State Disaster Response Force contingent trained in Anti Chemical, Radiological, Biological and Nuclear (CBRN) Disasters.

A team of 12 fire fighting personnel from State Disaster Response Force of the Directorate of Fire and Emergency Services, Goa were recently deputed to the fifth battalion National Disaster Response Force training at Sudumbare in Pune District.   
“The team is now trained in Urban Search and Rescue (USAR), Medical First Responder (MRF), Swiftwater Flood Rescue (SWFR). besides the basic fire fighting and other of Chemical, Biological and Nuclear and Radiological practical aspects,” a statement issued by the government has said.   
The State Directorate of Fire and Emergency Services will also recruit more staff and equipment in order to further equip itself for meeting the CBRN incidents.  
State Disaster Response Fund of the Goa State Disaster Management Authority, headed by Divisional Officer Rajendra A Haldankar along with station Fire Officer has funded the training.   
The team consists of Deelip Gawas, Station Fire Officer Santosh Gawas, Sub-officer Dilesh H Govekar and Fire Fighters Siddhesh Parab, Pravin Gaonkar, Baburao T Arondekar, Rajendra S Pednekar, Sajjan Madkudkar, Satyajeet H Dessai, Sachin Gaonkar and Narayan Morlekar.  
In order to appraise himself with the training facilities and training requirement, the Director of the Department paid a visit to the training centre.

Accused in idol desecration case sent to IPHB

The accused, Durari Biju Burman from UP, who allegedly desecrated a Ganesh idol at a residence at Dhangrwadi-Hankhane in Pernem was on Thursday sent to Institute of Psychiatry & Human Behaviour (IPHB).
