Goa Forward flays CM's statement on marinas

PANAJI
Goa Forward Party on Friday condemned Chief Minister Pramod Sawant's statement advocating marinas.

CM has earlier said that marinas will help tourism and only 5-6 farmers are directly affected by the projects while other people will benefit from the marina.

GFP refuted the claim of CM that only 4-5 farmers are affected by the marina project.

Goa Forward Parties St Andre constituency block president Jagdish Bhobe said that the claim of the CM that the marina will help tourism is false as big projects never help the locals.

"Only outsiders benefit from these projects," said Bhobe.

Bhobe said that there are thousands of farmers in villages of Cacra, Navshi, Shirdon, Goa Velha who will be directly affected by the marina project.

He alleged that local MLA Francisco Silveira who is also the president of PDA, wants to include parts of St Andre constituency into the PDA and through PDA he wants to give backdoor entry to the marina project.

Bhobe said that the Goa Forward Party will fully support the all-party forum 'people against marina' formed to oppose the project.

There are efforts to bring in a marina since 2010, and after 2017 the government has intensified it, said Bhobe. The public hearing on the marina project has been kept on hold due to public outcry.
