MARGAO
Unlike the coalition partner Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party, Goa Forward supremo Vijai Sardesai on Monday said the regional outfit is not interested in national politics, thus virtually ruling out the possibility of the party contesting the 2019 Lok Sabha election.
Moreover, he pointed out that the Goa Forward is a member of the BJP-led National Democratic Party (NDA) alliance, adding that the regional outfit does not believe in double standards. "When our party is a member of the NDA Alliance and is also a part of the BJP-led coalition government in Goa, I do not think that it's fair to make any announcement on plans to contest the Lok Sabha election. It would amount to double standards," Sardesai added.
Meanwhile, when questioned on the outbursts by MGP President Deepak Dhavalikar against him and the Goa Forward and MGP's plans to contest the Lok Sabha poll, Sardesai said the MGP is a venerable old party in Goa. "Being old, perhaps a little help is needed to remind that I and PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar were together in Delhi for the NDA meeting on April 10, 2017. I can clearly recall Sudin, while addressing the NDA meeting, stating that the MGP is not only Goa's oldest party, but is a strongest member of the NDA," the TCP minister said.
