Goa has got bad image for crimes committed by outsiders: Tawadkar

MARGAO
Goa Legislative Assembly Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar on Friday underscored the need to showcase humanism of Goemkars before the country and the world to set the image of Goa in the right perspective.

During the interaction with Margao Municipal councillors at the Black Box, Ravindra Bhavan, Margao led by Chairperson Damu Shirodkar ahead of the annual Lokotsav festival at Canacona, Tawadkar said Goa has got a bad image for the crimes committed by people from outside the State.

In fact, he said that outsiders are involved in 75 per cent of the crimes reported in the State, adding that the time has come to set right the image.

“Goa’s rich culture is the humanism amongst the people. Probably, this humanism will not be found in the entire country or the world. We have to showcase our humanism, besides our culture before the country and the world,” he said.

He added: “When we go abroad, we come across warnings that one should not go to certain places. Today, I can say with pride that anyone can visit Cotigao in Canacona taluka and he will return back unharmed. Most of the crimes we come across in Goa are committed by people from outside the State. We need to remove the misconception amongst the minds of the visitors that Goa is safe.”

Saying that tourists visiting Goa only take the names of a couple of beaches in North Goa, besides some temples and churches, Tawadkar said the time has come to showcase before the visitors Goa’s rich culture and heritage, including humanism.
