Goa Pradesh Congress Committee president Girish Chodankar has stepped up efforts to secure land in Vailankanni for a proposed Goa House to cater to Goans visiting the major pilgrimage destination.
Chodankar met Tamil Nadu Public Works and Sports Development Minister Aadhav Arjuna and handed over the detailed proposal submitted by the Christian Association of Goa (CAG), seeking allotment of suitable land for the facility.
The proposed Goa House is envisaged as a common support centre offering accommodation, basic amenities, information and assistance to Goan pilgrims, particularly senior citizens, families with children and ordinary visitors.
“A Goa House at Vailankanni is not merely about constructing a building. It is about creating a safe, dependable and accessible facility for Goans travelling thousands of kilometres away from home,” Chodankar said.
He said the proposal had earlier been discussed with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay, who had advised that the matter be pursued with the PWD Ministry.
Chodankar said that the Minister was positive about the proposal and assured that it would be processed at the earliest. Chodankar said he would continue pursuing the matter with the Tamil Nadu government, stressing that the facility could become a permanent public asset serving generations of Goans.
