Expressing his concern over the flight of capital from Goa to the neighbouring States of Karnataka and Maharashtra due to the shortfall of milk production, Minister for Cooperation Subhash Shirodkar on Sunday make a startling revelation that there’s flight of capital of Rs one crore from Goa to the neighbouring States over the sale of milk.
“There is a huge demand for milk in Goa, which is met by the milk supplied by the farmers from Maharashtra and Karnataka. Every day, Rs one crore is going out of Goa towards the sale of milk imported from the neighbouring States. This only benefits the farmers from these States as the money earned by sale of milk goes to them”, he said.
He added: “If this continues, what will remain with the local populace. The only option is to strengthen the cooperation movement in the milk sector and meet the requirements of the local people”.
The Minister was apparently trying to convey a message that even educated people should not shy away from venturing into dairy business with the help and assistance of the government.
There is huge demand for the Dairy’s milk, but it doesn’t have enough to supply.
