The CCP has passed a resolution asking the Commissioner to write to Goa Natural Gas asking them to pay the full amount for cutting roads in the capital city as against the one-third charge that was previously levied on them.
Speaking after an ordinary meeting of the CCP, Mayor Surendra Furtado stated, “Our technical department had issued a note to the contractor to pay us almost Rs one crore because the rate as per the budget is Rs 2,000 per sq mts for cutting the road. A resolution was passed by CCP that anything above 50 mts should come to the CCP. This is kilometers of roads and the Commissioner has on his own decided to levy one third the charge at Rs 32 lakh.”
He informed that all corporators challenged the Commissioner’s decision, which was based on a Government of India guideline that utility services be charged at a lower rate. “This is a one-time payment as against the charges they will levy once they start selling gas. Every month they will charge the consumer. How will the CCP run with the 7th Pay Commission and all other expenses when we don’t have revenue,” Furtado argued.
The CCP has also resolved that the Commissioner should write to the government that appointment of additional collector of North Goa should be rolled back and the deputy commissioner of CCP be appointed as the estate officer.
