Thanks to a slew of measures undertaken by the state government to improve the business atmosphere, ease of doing business in Goa seems to be gradually picking up for the better.
Addressing a gathering of around 400 businesspersons from across the country, who are in Panaji for the launch programme of Vibrant Goa Global Expo and Summit 2019, state Revenue Minister Rohan Khaunte said that Goa had achieved 62% of parameters on that front.
Khaunte said, “Goa government in the last 18 months has been doing a lot of things for ease of doing business. We are roughly at 62% of achievement on the parameters of ease of doing business.”
“Gone are the days, when you had to fill forms for shops and establishments, renewals at the Labour Department. Today, everything is online, whether leave registration, certification processes and etc,” he continued.
Khaunte also emphasised the importance of skilling because of dynamic nature of modern day businesses. He said, “Skilling is no longer a one-time exercise. Technology will keep on changing and one needs to be ready for this change. For that, skilling becomes a continuous exercise. Without that, we can’t survive.”
Khaunte informed the gathering that the government is working on to create a cluster of 1,800 to 2,000 people, who will be industry-ready soon from the viewpoint of skills.
He said, “We have managed to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Cipla. The Labour and Employment Department has signed with them for skilling two types of people. One is those who are B Pharm or M Pharm pass-out. Second is for those who are 10th standard or 12th standard pass outs.”
Khuante continued, “As a result of this MoU, 50-60 people will be skilled by one company in a year. If 20-30 companies put in the the same effort, we will be creating a cluster of 1,800 to 2,000 people, who will be industry-ready.”
