Manohar International Airport (MIA), operated by GMR Goa International Airport Ltd. (GGIAL), a GMR Airports Infrastructure Ltd (GIL) subsidiary, announces the arrival of its first freighter, showcasing GMR Goa Air Cargo Logistic (GGACL) Terminal's capabilities. Chapman Freeborn Air charters, with BBN Airlines Turkey, organised an A321 Freighter aircraft carrying 22 tons of cargo, arriving at GOX airport on July 24, 2024. This marks the first commercial freighter operation at GOX, utilising MDL/LDL for cargo offload. GGACL managed offloading, storage, and clearance using GMR's cargo facilities. This milestone sets a benchmark for handling heavy and odd-dimensional freighter cargo, establishing GOX as a preferred cargo hub in western India.
MIA began air cargo operations on September 8, handling approximately 5,000 MT of domestic/international cargo through Air India, Oman Air, Indigo, Akasa, Vistara, and SpiceJet. GGIAL's integrated GMR Goa Air Cargo Logistic Terminal, with an initial capacity of 25,000 MT per annum, can expand to 2 lakh MT per annum. This event is expected to boost the region's economic activities and enhance logistical connectivity.
