GOACAN will observe Vigilance Awareness Week with the theme “I Care” from 27 October to 2 November. The awareness week will highlight the need for consumers to be vigilant against the malpractices being carried out by Government and Commercial agencies which is causing a financial loss to the consumer.

According to the GOACAN Convenor, Roland Martins, GOACAN will also launch a year-long Vigilance Awareness Campaign to tackle the losses suffered by Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTCL) due to Ticket-less Travel by consumers and the Frauds in Banks and Credit Co-operative Societies due to which depositors are losing their hard-earned

money.

“ GOACAN volunteers during this week will examine complaints about deficiency in service due to the lack of supervision by officials in matters concerning Electricity, Bus Transport, Food Safety, Packaged Commodities, Tourism, Fire Safety, Telephone Services, Cable TV, LPG cylinders, Public Toilets, Fair Price Shops, Banking Services, Post Offices and Health Services among others. During the Vigilance Awareness Week, GOACAN volunteers will also visit Government offices to check for the availability of the Public Grievance Officer, Citizens Charter and the Suggestion cum Complaint Book. “ said, Martins.

“Special focus will be on the officials responsible for the enforcement of the provisions of the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act 2007 & Goa Rules 2009, Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016, Cigarettes & Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) 2003 and Goa Ground Water Regulation Act 2002 & Rules 2003. GOACAN volunteers during this Awareness Week will make efforts to popularize the benefits of the Right To Information Act 2005 and ensure the implementation of its provisions and the obligations of the notified Public Authorities,” Martins added.

“GOACAN volunteers will ensure that the appointment of the Vigilance Committee in all Village Panchayats by the Government of Goa as mandated by the Goa Panchayati Raj Act is discussed in the forthcoming Gram Sabha meeting.

During the week consumers are requested to send copies of their consumer complaints/suggestions by email to [email protected]”

said Martins.
