In yet another case which exposed Goa’s porous border, liquor worth nearly Rs 60,000, which slipped through scrutiny of the police and excise check-posts at Polem, was intercepted by officials of the Karnataka excise in Karwar.

One Suresh Naik and his accomplice Chandrakant Marathe, both from Yellapur, were transporting the contraband liquor in their Creta car when they were stopped by the officials at the check-post.

On searching the car, the Karnataka officials stumbled upon approximately 38 litres of liquor, which is said to be made in Goa. The liquor as well as the car, together worth about Rs 12.5 lakh, have been seized, and further legal action is being pursued by Karnataka excise.
