PANAJI: Three proposals have been received in response to the e-tender floated to outsource all seven canteens at the GMC hospital in Bambolim.
Two companies from Chennai and Banglore as well as a businessmen from Goa were found to have submitted their proposals, when technical proposals were opened.
The State government has decided to outsource the GMC canteens along the lines of premier hospitals like AIIMS. The firm bagging the contract is also expected to supply meals to the in-patients.
Given the lucrative business potentials, there were hopes that locals would have been given preference in the running of these canteens. However, the chances of locals bagging the contracts are slim, given the condition that the contractor should have a Rs 15 crore turnover.
Santosh Naik, who was operating GMC canteens on a contract basis, has also submitted his proposal along the with two firms from outside Goa.
“In all, three proposals have been received for the outsourcing of the GMC canteens. Soon, these proposals will be scrutinised and a final proposal will be submitted,” informed GMC Dean Dr Pradeep Naik.
Health Minister Vishwajeet Rane has said the decision to outsource the canteens was taken to ensure quality and affordable meals and food items to patients and their relatives.
According to sources, the staff currently running the canteens are likely to be shifted elsewhere when the new canteen contractor takes over.
Fear has now gripped the existing canteen staff, amid concerns that they could be transferred to distant places.
