Stating that Goans employed at the Dabolim airport were getting the short shrift, Navelim MLA Luizinho Faleiro said the locals employed at the airport were yet to be regularised even as the government was making tall claims about the Mopa airport.
“There is a hostile discrimination when it comes to appointing Goans at the Dabolim airport. The government has failed to regularize the services of the Goans who were employed years back,” Faleiro said, raising the issue at the Zero Hour.
He said around 150 Goans were recruited on temporary basis at the Dabolim airport some 15 years back.
He said the government refused to confirm their services and therefore the employees approached the administrative tribunal which gave an order in their favour.
Later, they also approached the High Court which upheld the order of the tribunal but the government failed to confirm their services.
He said as of today, out of 150 only 20 of those Goans were left at the airport as some may have retired, some left in disgust and some passed away. “We are making tall promises on the Mopa airport but this is the sad story of the Goans employed at the Dabolim airport,” Faleiro said.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant assured to look into the issue and talk to the central government. He also requested the Navelim MLA to discuss the issue with the South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha who is on one of the panels of the Airport Authority of India.
