“The revival of maand culture will attract the young generation to preserve their original cultural bonding and to keep their traditions alive. Under this scheme, village artists will be imparted training in various Goan folk art forms and folk music which are on the verge of extinction,” stated Govind Gawade, minister for Art and Culture at a press briefing on Monday.
Stating that the objectives of the scheme are to revive, preserve and protect Goan Maand culture that has produced various folk art forms and folk music and folklores in the state, he pointed out that this will maintain the bonding of unity and integrity and brotherhood amongst the villagers. The government will provide necessary infrastructure and financial support for the purpose.
Existing Maand groups that are on the verge of extinction will get financial support. Efforts would also be taken to create cultural interaction between village to village in the form of village exchange programmes and to create legacy of Maand artists through folk events on state, national and international level.
Under this scheme the artists will be imparted training in various Goan folk art forms, folklores and folk music for a period of one year.
The Maand group will have a liberty to apply after every two years provided no previous trained artist is enrolled again.
Applications will be accepted in April every year.
Under the scheme the list of folk art masters or ‘Maand Guru’ or trainers will be prepared and they will be brought in lime light to impart folk art education to budding artists.
Experts of Goan folk art and music can come forward to work as Maand Gurus, the selection of whom will be done by a committee of experts constituted by the government which will review the progress after a year.
The minister further informed that district and state level Maand culture festivals will be organized to explore the cultural talent of the groups which can practice any five folk art forms of their choice with the approval of the committee of experts during the course of training.
“The time table of functioning of Maand will be prepared by the Maand Guru in consultation with the trainees under instruction of the Directorate of Art and Culture,” announced the minister.
